Narrow House

The long and narrow site forms the starting point for this family home. Its unusual proportions are reflected in the elongated form of the house, while the guest house and garage are arranged to create a sheltered outdoor space between the buildings. Oriented to capture the best of the daytime and evening sun, the terrace becomes a natural extension of the family’s living spaces.

The plan responds carefully to the neighbouring house and street. The placement and scale of windows provide privacy where needed, while generous openings towards the garden bring daylight and a sense of openness to the interior. From the entrance at one end of the house, long sightlines extend through the living areas towards the terrace at the opposite end. A double-height dining space and glazing introduce a vertical dimension to the otherwise horizontal composition.

Untreated pine cladding and a green roof give the house a natural, restrained character, with dark window frames providing a subtle contrast.
