Lotsviken Patio Houses

Set between the archipelago and the city, just 200 meters from the shoreline and 20 minutes from Stockholm, this project redefines a former holiday-home site into a permanent community, comprising five semi-detached houses built entirely in wood.

The apartments are designed around an ideal outdoor patio tailored to the Scandinavian climate. Oriented southwest, the L-shaped form shelters the space from prevailing winds while capturing sunlight from midday until late evening, flooding the double-height dining room with natural light and enhancing the sense of openness. Both the living and dining rooms extend seamlessly onto this patio, blurring the boundary between indoors and outdoors.

The spatial hierarchy is clear: generous, social ground floors contrast with efficient, private upper levels. Flexibility is integral, with options for additional bedrooms, a study, or a walk-in closet, allowing the architecture to adapt to changing needs.
